Walter Albert Harlow
1894 - 1918
Walter was wounded in an earlier battle and was evacuated to the Number 4 Casualty Clearing Station (CCS). He died there of his wounds a few days later. Walter was then buried in the clearing stations dedicated cemetery.
On the 30th July 1918 the 6th Buffs moved from Amiens to Canaples and thence to Berleaucourt twelve miles north west of Amiens. On the 2nd August the 6th Buffs went into frontline trenches on the Behencourt-Franvillers Road. It occupied a nearby wood in the Warloy Sector of operations. On the 3rd August the battalion moved to Dernancourt on the Ancre. On the 4th August the 6th Buffs relieved a US Army battalion in the frontline. The battalion remained here for 4 days (until the 8th August). On the 8th August the 6th Buffs moved into the line at Morlancourt with orders to attack at 03.00 hours. The attack was called off at the last moment but D Company (2LT Hearson) was caught in no mans land. The enemy opened fire with machine guns killing two officers and two men. A further 24 men were wounded. It would appear that Walter was one of the 2 men killed.
