Bartelt, Otto Ernest Albert (b. 23 OCT 1923, d. 30 DEC 1995)
Note: Albert was born near Stettin in Germany, at 18 years old he was called up to fight for Hitler in Germany. He was ordered to the Russian front, where he was injured. Because of the wound in his head, he was transferred to the South of France, where the Americans took him prisoner. As a prisoner of war, he was moved to several different places, at first America and at the end of the war to Scotland. He worked at farms near Aberdeen. Then he went to a camp in Kenardington.
He met Ethel in 1947 at Appledore church. She invited him home and they spent Christmas together. They got engaged at Easter, and they married on Albert's birthday in October. He had to wait for his naturalization for a few years. In the sixties Albert heard the some members of his family had survived and that they lived in the GDR. He visited his mother and other members of his family othen, but England had become his home. He worked at farms in the Kenardington area until he purchased a small piece of land. For 40 years he was a shepherd.
