George Maitland former Garfield Councilman dies; Served under Dahnert 230 years ago; Funeral to be held Monday.
George Maitland 55 a long time resident of Garfield died at his home 132 Autumn Street Passaic, at 1.00 yesterday afternnon after a long illness. Mr Maitland was born in Scotland. He came to Garfield with his parents at the age of 7 and lived in Garfield until 4 years ago, when he moved to Passaic.
Mr Maitland served as a Chanceman on the Garfield department but did not except appointment as a patrolman. He also served a term in Garfield City Council under former Mayor Ernest B Dahnert 20 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs Maude Maitland a daughter, Mrs Berths Magee, of Garfield and three sons. Russell and George who live at home and Harry Maitland of Clifton. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2.30 at the home with Rev. Gerald J Huenick of the Garfield Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Lodi Cemetery.
